Tourist and Tour Guide

My grandmother and little sister are visiting from out of town and I couldn’t ask for better sightseeing weather.  Although I’ve lived in DC for almost 9 years, I definitely take this city for granted and seldom take advantage of all its history and access to knowledge. We spent Saturday outdoors, walking around The Mall, The White House, and the Jefferson, MLK, and Lincoln Memorials. Sunday, we were in awe at the beautiful Botanical Gardens (my first, but certainly not my last, visit there) and then took a trip across the Anacostia and toured the Frederick Douglas house. This is my third time on this tour and I highly recommend it. It’s unfortunate how little people know or care about our nation’s history and I’m proud that I was able to educate my family on a few things and teach my sister about such an important era of our past.
Since I knew we were going to be in and out of buildings and air conditioning, I kept it simple yet versatile, tying a button down shirt over a simple black maxi dress. And my go-to Michael Kors tote was perfect for tossing in brochures and little purchases for my sister.
